Who is responsible for caulking my bathroom renovation?

When undergoing a renovation you may hire professional help with some areas of your bathroom such as tilers or plumbers who will caulk your bathroom for you, however this isn’t always the case so it’s best to ensure that calking is itemised in the quote. You can also hire a professional caulker. or it can be done by yourself (DIY).

How much does calking cost?

Done by a professional, caulking can cost around $75+ for labour, materials and gst.

Or you can save yourself some coin and do it yourself, you will just have to pay for the materials such as the Soudal Dripless Heavy Duty Cartridge Gun and Bathroom & Kitchen Silicone.

Do I need to seal my shower screen?

Most professional shower installations leave a gap between the frameless shower screen and wall and the shower screen and floor which needs to be filled with silicone sealant. These gaps are required so there is no pressure placed on the glass from possible house movement which can cause it to shatter later on down the track. These larger gaps will need to be filled with silicone to create a waterproof shower. Whether there is a visible gap or not, the floor and sides that meet the walls will also need to be sealed.

Most professional shower installations will include sealing however, if it was excluded from the quote, you can DIY your silicone application with Soudal products such as the Soudal Dripless Heavy Duty Cartridge Gun and Bathroom & Kitchen Silicone.
